Become A Volunteer

The Bishop Baraga Association (BBA) is in search of volunteers at the Baraga Educational Center (BEC) who are 15 years or older and interested in the life and labors of Bishop Baraga. We are always on the lookout for dynamic, curious individuals who want to be a part of the BBA/BECM team and want to grow their social and spiritual networks in the Marquette Community.

Engage with BEC visitors!

You can share your knowledge and love of learning about Bishop Frederic Baraga and the Upper Peninsula with visitors! With guidance from staff, volunteers will lead tours, give gallery talks, offer fun hands-on experiences, and more. You’ll meet people of all ages from across the U.S. and around the world, helping to follow in Bishop Baraga’s footsteps.

Prefer to contribute behind-the-scenes?

BBA volunteers can serve in many important, non-public roles, working onsite at one of our buildings, collecting data, putting together educational programs, restocking merchandise, caring for the gardens and other critical functions important to the BBA.

Museum Docents

The Museum Docent is a volunteer who guides visitors through learning activities at the museum. Docents aid in educating and engaging the visitors of the Baraga Educational Center about the life and labors of Bishop Baraga. In addition to answering questions, docents give tours and are cross trained as Gift Shop Attendants.

Gift Shop Attendants

The purpose of the Baraga Educational Center Store is to provide museum visitors with the opportunity to purchase merchandise that will enhance the educational experience received in the center. Gift Shop Attendants run the cash register and attend to customer needs. In addition are cross trained as Museum Docents.

Educational Program Volunteers

Educational Program Volunteers work independently and in committees on special projects with the Volunteer Coordinator. These activities include but are not limited to organizing and developing new tours, researching new exhibits, developing art projects and other educational activities and opportunities.

Prayer Garden Volunteers
