Welcome to Baraga Days 2024

The annual Baraga Days celebrating the life and labors of Venerable Bishop Frederic Baraga was held on September 13 through September 14 in Gaylord, Michigan! The event was hosted by the Bishop Baraga Association (BBA) and The Diocese of Gaylord. This event provided an opportunity for those who know this saintly man to celebrate his work and provides an opportunity for all to learn about Bishop Frederic Baraga.

The event include Evening Vespers, Private Blessings with the Baraga Crucifix, presentations on Venerable Bishop Baraga’s work in the Gaylord Diocese area and Baraga Days Mass. There was time alloted to tour Diocesan sites specific to Bishop Baraga in the area. Baraga Days will conclude with a banquet and the annual Bishop Baraga Association meeting which provides an opportunity for attendees to receive updates on Bishop Baraga’s Cause for Canonization as well as updates on the activities of the BBA.

Schedule of Events

Friday, September 13th, 2024

7:00 pm Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (St. Mary, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral; 606 N Ohio Ave., Gaylord)

7:30 pm Vespers (during Adoration)

8:15 pm Benediction

8:30 – 10:00 pm Fellowship with Music and Refreshments (location to be determined – parish hall or outside)

Saturday, September 14th, 2024

9:00 am Morning Mass – Cathedral Very Rev. Timothy Ferguson – Principal Celebrant

9:30 – 10:30 am Private Blessings with the Baraga Crucifix (Cathedral) Light Refreshments (Parish Hall)

10:30 – 11:30 am Presentation: Venerable Bishop Baraga’s work in the Gaylord Diocese area. (Parish Hall)

12:00 pm – 5:00 pm Afternoon is open to site see in Gaylord and tour Diocesan sites specific to Bishop Baraga (on your own)

5:00 pm Baraga Days Mass – Cathedral, Gaylord Most Rev. Jeffrey Walsh – Principal Celebrant Bishop of the Diocese of Gaylord, MI Most Rev. John F. Doerfler Bishop of the Diocese of Marquette, MI, Dignitaries & Priest throughout the area.

6:30 pm Baraga Days Banquet and Annual Meeting – Cathedral Parish Hall (begins immediately following Mass)
